Ack! Small hive beetles!!
Ack! Small hive beetles!!
I am still working under the guise that my hive is queenless. So I obtained another queen from someone in CMBA. Her name is Queen Elsa. Let’s hope she makes the cut!
I was finally able to get out there and do another inspection this weekend! It’s been so rainy here for the past month or so.
It seems that my hive is queenless at the moment. This means that the old queen died or was not doing well and was killed off. As you’ll see int he video, the colony is attempting to replace her. I need to do more research on whether I should let them do their thing naturally, or buy another queen to replace the lost one.
I did my first bee inspection yesterday! Everything looks good, except for a small bit of (what I hope is) misshapen comb, which I will keep an eye on. w00t!
Yesterday was Bee-mass! I got my bees, but it was too cold to install them. Today was warmer, so I transferred them to their new home.
My beehive came last night and I made a video about all the different parts that make it up.
This is the first time I’ve made a video for the Internet at large. Be kind.
